Medication

An option that you may choose at the Self Center is to take appetite suppressants which will help you lose weight. Medication can help weight lossRecent research studies have shown that patients for whom appetite suppressants are correctly prescribed along with nutrition, exercise, and behavioral modification techniques are more successful in losing weight and maintaining weight loss than patients utilizing only the first three components.

Merida® an appetite suppressant is also an option if you meet the criteria and chose to take.

Xenical® is a fat blocker, which also can be taken to help lose weight.

Another choice of appetite suppressant medication is available through a clinical research protocol which has been approved through the expedited review process of the Institutional Review Board of Thomas Hospital (as per the Code of Federal Regulations of the FDA). If you opt to take this appetite suppressant, you can enter a single blinded study. This means you will not be given the name of the medicines; only the pharmacist and Dr. Self will have that information. You will receive medication containing an appetite suppressant. You cannot receive a sugar pill (placebo) in this study.
