Tumescent Liposuction is a surgical technique performed with local anesthesia for unwanted deposits of fat from specific areas of the body. This is not a substitute for weight reduction, but a method for removing localized deposits of fatty tissue that do not respond to diet or exercise.
The Self Center is offering this procedure at present for the abdomen and/or love handles. This is done in the office with local anesthesia while you are fully awake. The Tumescent Liposuction technique involves the infiltration of fluid, containing dilute local anesthetic and epinephrine, into areas of fatty deposits. This technique reduces discomfort at the time of surgery as well as reduces postoperative bruising. After complete anesthesia of the area, small cannulas are used to extract the fatty deposits. With this technique there is less possibility of complications from the anesthesia and less bruising, bleeding, trauma to surrounding tissue, post op pain, and downtime as compared to the usual liposuction done with general or IV sedation. Although the procedure takes longer to do, approximately three hours, research and most physicians agree that Tumescent Liposuction is much safer as it is performed with local anesthesia and with smaller cannulas with results comparable to or better than usual liposuction. Support garments and dressings are worn to control swelling and promote healing. If you’re tired of that tummy pooch or those love handles, now is the time to make them disappear.
Dr. Self completed a preceptorship for Tumescent Liposuction in Beverley Hills, California, with Sam Assassa, M. D., the president of The American Association of Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery, who is renowned for his expertise in this field.
